Flowers Growing in Sidewalk Cracks
Anyone who is a plant enthusiast, like myself, more than likely has their fair share of plant horror stories, which is why I’ve come to own two cactuses, since they’re the easiest to grow and maintain. My plant enthusiasts also know that each plant has a “happy place” where they grow best. So when I was wandering around my neighborhood, with cracking sidewalks and cookie cutter homes under construction, I was completely taken off guard when I almost stepped on a flower. And by flower, I mean the singularly most vibrant, ruby-esque flower I have ever seen, and it was growing in a sidewalk crack. Up until this point, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a flower growing in such an odd place. Sure I’ve seen vines winding up trees and the standard overgrown hydrangea, but nothing growing in a narrow crevice in a sidewalk. This silly little misplaced flower, flourishing on its own in a place flowers normally don’t remotely touch, made everything, even the cloudy sky, look gray in its presence. Turns out even plants can flourish in the most unassuming spots, bringing their own color and joy along with them.
